BackStory/WorldBuilding Guidelines
Introduction
This guide is to introduce players working on their backstory, or lending a hand in world-building for the Inquisition Campaign.
Kingdom Subdivision
Each kingdom is split into 3-5 sections, referred to here as "Duchies" and their rulers are referred to as "Dukes". Though that is the terminology used, be aware that certain kingdoms may use different terminology to refer to these rulers and locations, such as a Jarl and his/her "Fief".
Each Duchy is then Subdivided into 1-3 "Counties" or "Baronies" (another term that may change based on culture) and ruled by a title referred to here as "Baron" or "Lord". A county or Barony may only have 1-2 human settlements and includes the surrounding land.
Backstories
If your character was a part of, or servant to, one of the Duchies or Counties of a Kingdom OTHER than Trimiria, feel free to world-build this area yourself, as the Inquistion setting does not get that Granular in its description
- Make sure to read about the Kingdom in which you are placing your Duchy or County
- You will (basically) always be creating a Duchy, even if your character served or was the child of a baron, as a Barony needs a duchy to be attached to. If you want to only create a county then Duchy requirements are thus
- The Duchy should be allocated a section of the map, work with your GM to find a suitable location to place your duchy that will feature the geographic or cultural things you wish to include in your backstory
- You should establish a name for the Duchy, a name for the Duke or Duchess
- You can then name and establish the County in which your character resided in and build out the main purpose of the County, its Baron or Lord's family name
